Payroll Systems Analyst

RMI is seeking a Payroll Systems Analyst to support all aspects of payroll processing, system conversion project and process improvement for a multi-state, multi-entity payroll operation. The ideal candidate should possess payroll/human resource business knowledge, and in depth Workday knowledge, along with system conversion or upgrade experience.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Perform the daily configuration support of Payroll and Time Tracking modules in Workday
  • Manage the Payroll workstream on a Workday implementation project
  • Provide the Workday implementation Project Manager (internal and external) with status updates and keep them apprised of overall project status. 
  • Researching, troubleshooting, and resolving day to day Workday US Payroll and Time Tracking issues
  • Creating and updating Workday configurations based on requirement changes 
  • Assist with the day-to-day payroll responsibilities, assist with employee inquiries, assist management of the processing of full cycle payrolls, work alongside the Payroll Analyst and department manager with special projects as needed
  • Ability to process full cycle semi-monthly payroll for multi company and multi state entities, with exempt and non-exempt employees
  • Ability to research payroll issues independently
  • Working knowledge of federal and multi state regulations
  • Ensures applications to all relevant taxing agencies are made timely
  • Works with the employment tax authorities on any employment tax issues
  • Research state and local specific tax requirements as needed
  • Knowledge of complex payroll tax transactions
  • Provide customer service to employee population regarding pay, system access, direct deposit, etc
  • Configure, schedule and run reports from the payroll system
  • Responsible for payroll bank transfers, banking documentation, and bank set ups for all entities
  • Responsible for payroll journal entries and account reconciliations. Understand payroll mappings to general ledger.
  • Supports payroll and time tracking audits from an application data perspective and perform risk assessment including identification, mitigation and documentation
  • Act as an active member for the Workday community - staying ahead of Workday updates, fixes and resolutions
  • Work closely with People Team and Accounting Team
  • Solution driven, ability to troubleshoot and provide new ideas for change as appropriate
  • Complete special implementation projects as needed
  • Perform other duties as needed

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Experience with Workday payroll system required
  • Recent and relevant experience working in high-volume multi-state, multi-entity payroll environment
  • Full understanding of payroll withholding tax guidelines and requirements
  • Strong working knowledge of payroll laws and processes
  • Experience processing payroll for 500+ employees preferred
  • Excellent organizational skills and time management skills with a high level of attention to detail
  • Advanced excel skills are required; ability to review large sets of data via pivot tables and vlookup
  • Must be a self-starter with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Must be able to work with little instruction on daily work and general instruction on new assignments
  • Basic payroll accounting knowledge required

Location 

This position will remain remote until it is safe to return to one of our offices in New York City, Washington D.C., Oakland, CA, Basalt or Boulder, CO. This will be discussed further throughout the interview process.

Compensation 

RMI compensates based on the level and requirements of the role. Salary within our ranges may also be determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as required by the role, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. Typically, new Analysts based in the U.S. join at the minimum to mid pay rate of $30.00- $35.50 per hour. You would also have an additional 5% bonus target!
