Internal Communications Manager

We are seeking an experienced Internal Communications professional to support our organization as it continues to grow and expand to meet the challenge of transforming our global energy systems for the sake of the climate.    

As the Internal Communications Manager, you will shape the voice of internal communications for our 400+ change leaders world-wide. You will be responsible for using storytelling and innovative communications strategies to connect RMIers to our mission, our values, and each other.  As the Internal Communications Manager, you will develop and own the processes and communications to inspire our fast-moving, passionate, and high-performing  staff and amplify our culture. 

As the Internal Communications Manager, you will be an individual contributor and will report to the Director of Learning and Development in the People Team. To highlight our successes and support our growth you will work with RMIers across the world, partnering closely with the Influence (Marketing and Communications) Team and our knowledge manager. Join us!

Key Responsibilities   

  • Develop and execute a strategic internal communications plan in line with our strategic goals, values, talent strategy, and external employment brand   
  • Connect staff to RMI’s culture and mission via engaging storytelling   
  • Work effectively across teams to execute effective communications initiatives, including supporting change management efforts    
  • Produce vivid and inspiring communications in a variety of formats including but not limited to newsletters, All Hands meetings, emails, and messaging for organization-wide meetings and retreats  
  • Develop efficient and effective internal communications that reach the right audiences at the right time and spark engagement  
  • Ensure internal messages are consistent across all mediums throughout the organization  
  • Handle internal responses to critical/emergent situations   

Minimum Qualifications   

  • 5+ years experience managing internal corporate messaging  
  • Successful track record using creative formats and storytelling to positively impact organizational culture 
  • Experience designing and implementing an internal communication plan to support organizational culture and employee experience 
  • Experience connecting with diverse audiences; a champion for inclusive language and communication in all formats  
  • Experience tailoring content to audience, balancing messaging with diverse stakeholder needs   
  • Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling skills  
  • Strong communication skills, active listener, and ability to synthesize complicated information clearly and on message  
  • Demonstrated ability to take ownership of multiple projects and competing priorities   
  • Comfortable in a fast-moving, collaborative, and ambiguous environment   
  • Tech savvy; proficient in PowerPoint, MS Teams, Outlook, and Zoom    
  • Our work is global and our workforce is distributed. Occasional travel may be required and working past normal business hours is occasionally necessary    

Preferred Qualifications   

  • Experience with energy/climate-change or mission-driven organizations   
  • Experience using employee experience data (surveys, exit interviews) to shape communications strategies 
  • Experience supporting diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts 
  • Experience planning and supporting change management initiatives 
  • Able to combine strategic thinking with fun and creative experiences  
  • Comfortable experimenting with new ways to reach employees with information, driving engagement to organizational initiatives  
  • Project management experience  
  • BA in communications, journalism, or related field   

Location    

This position will remain remote through the COVID-19 pandemic. Once the COVID-19 situation improves, location is flexible. RMI’s offices are in New York City, NY; Oakland, CA; Washington, DC; Boulder, CO; and Basalt, CO.

Compensation   

The salary range for this position is $79,000- $93,000. This is dependent on experience that will be discussed and vetted through the interview process. This position also includes an additional 10% bonus target.
