In 2017, RMI was awarded an overseas NGO certificate by China, and the National Energy Administration is our supervising government agency in China. The Beijing office works on multiple parts of China’s zero-carbon energy transitions and collaborates with partners to support the decarbonization of power system and heavy industries, and implement China’s carbon-peaking and carbon-neutrality strategy in regions, provinces, cities and districts.

Rocky Mountain Institute is seeking an exceptional candidate to join our Beijing office as the Principal of our China power sector work. The successful Principal will lead the power program‘s strategy development and implementation, fundraising, team management, budget planning, coordination with other teams and offices, and key stakeholder engagement and collaboration to advance RMI’s programs and ideas. The Principal will report to the chief representative of RMI Beijing office, and will also participate as part of the overall China program leadership team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop RMI China’s strategy and initiatives that help decarbonize China’s power sector

  • Lead teams and work streams to deliver high-quality products, including both thought leadership and “roll-up your sleeves” execution

  • Develop and manage program budget

  • Lead business development with power sector stakeholders (e.g., government, utilities, energy-intensive industries) and support fundraising with philanthropic organizations; develop partnerships with non-governmental organizations and research institutes

Education and Experience

  • Master degree-equivalent or higher, with significant study of technology (science/engineering) and markets (business/finance) preferred

  • 8+ years professional experience and knowledge of Chinese and international power sectors, preferably with government, utilities/generators, research organizations, and/or management consulting organizations

  • Direct management experience developing and managing highly skilled teams

培养和管理高水平技术团队的直接管理经验

  • Overseas work or educational experience preferred
